Dr Ernie Harbott of Compost Culture and local compost comrades have put together a small but thought-provoking collection of composted items to raise awareness this International Compost Awareness Week.

Watch this sneak peak of the Composted Artefacts Exhibition and promotion for the LOCCAL Convergence on 10 May.

Ernie, composters from Singleton and members of LOCCAL have specially composted some items, and recovered other contaminant items from their composts, and are showcasing them to get people thinking about the impact of everyday items on the environment over time and on them as consumers and users of the items.

“Still Life With Plastic” contributed and created by Clytie Binder features in the exhibition.

Only a small fraction of the collection is on display. Ernie intends to put together a much bigger exhibit that will travel the country, for LOCCAL members to exhibit in their community.

“Green Washing” composted and contributed by Michelle Higgins is another of the exhibits on display.

You can view the exhibition in the foyer of the Singleton Public Library, NSW during the month of May.

    I compost my clothing at the absolute end of its life so long as it’s made of natural fibres. At the end of the process I know where it’s been when I fish out the odd button I’ve missed, polyester thread, brand labels, etc.
