Community composting survey results

Thank you to all who participated in LOCCAL’s 2024 community composting survey. We received 100 responses!

The purpose of the survey was to gather data so that together we can understand the state of community composting in Australia and inform how LOCCAL (LOcal Community Composting Alliance) can best support local composting efforts across Australia.

Summary of survey results

Most respondents were from NSW, QLD and VIC, with a few representations from WA, TAS and SA. A further 15% did not state where they were located.

When we looked closely at your responses to the questions about how LOCCAL can best support community composters across Australia the top three focus areas emerged:

  • Support with identifying, applying for and sourcing grants and other funding
  • Creating opportunities for networking and connecting with other community composters and initiatives around Australia
  • Resources and opportunities for education and training

The survey results showed that 44% of you would become members LOCCAL and a further 40% would join if there was a demonstrable benefit.

Most respondents have limited funds available for membership fees and almost 25% were willing to contribute in a non monetary way.

What happens next?

The LOCCAL team are now working on planning and providing opportunities on networking and education, as well as funding and business model support, so that Community Composters can grow in their community and across Australia based on these initial survey responses.
