This World Environment Day, we’re celebrating one of the simplest yet most powerful climate actions you can take: composting. Every banana peel, coffee ground, and veggie scrap we compost helps return nutrients to the soil, reduce methane emissions from landfill, and build more resilient, regenerative food systems.

But when we compost together, the impact multiplies.
Community composting is composting with care – care for our soil, our neighbours, and our planet. Australia-wide, communities are turning organic waste into rich, living compost while growing connection, education, and local solutions to global problems.
LOCCAL (Local Community Compost Alliance) aims to build a national movement to support community composters with education, advocacy, resources, and recognition. We believe community composting deserves the same legitimacy and support as any other waste infrastructure – because it is critical infrastructure for a healthier, more sustainable future.
