Small Creatures, Big Impact. Worm farming at any scale with Kim Frankowiak + LOCCAL AGM [online]

11 October @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm AEDT

LOCCAL is proud to host an interactive webinar — Small Creatures, Big Impact– on worm farming at any scale with Kim Frankowiak from Great Southern Living Soil in Denmark, Western Australia.

Kim brings 20 years of experience as a professional worm farmer, with a background in microbiology and soil science, and a love for sharing his knowledge.

Kim’s presentation will walk through worm farming systems at three different scales:

  • Domestic worm farms — including popular systems like the Hungry Bin and Worm Cafe, with practical do’s and don’ts for getting the best results at home
  • Fridge-style worm farms — a step up from the domestic bin, ideal for households or small groups wanting to process more scraps
  • Row worm farms — a larger-scale system suited to small farmers, community gardens, and neighbourhood composting hubs
  • After Kim presents, we’ll open the floor for questions and community discussion. We’ll also be featuring photos, videos and questions submitted by the community beforehand — so the more you send in, the richer the conversation.
This is an interactive event – please contribute!
We want this to be a real community conversation, not just a presentation. So please get involved before the event:
Send in your questions for Kim: No question is too basic — if you’ve wondered about it, others probably have too.
Share a photo or video of your worm farm: We’d love to feature your setup during the session. Short videos and photos are both welcome.
Share a tip or a suggestion from your own experience: Send us a few lines about what you’ve learned from worm farming, such as something that surprised you, something that went wrong, something that worked brilliantly …
Send everything to info@loccal.org by Friday 9 October with the subject line Small Creatures.
About Kim Frankowiak — Great Southern Living Soil
Kim Frankowiak is the founder of Great Southern Living Soil, a vermiculture business based in Denmark, Western Australia. Kim cultivates colonies of tiger worms (Eisenia fetida) to produce vermicast fertiliser and vermicast liquid — products that infuse soil with bioavailable nutrients, beneficial microbes, and trace elements that unlock soil health and strengthen plant immunity.
Kim’s mission is to share what he calls “the best-kept secret to abundant plant growth” — and his work spans home growers through to commercial farmers and regenerative agriculture. He also runs workshops on composting and vermicomposting, and brings a depth of hands-on knowledge that’s rare to find.

    About LOCCAL
LOCCAL is the Local Community Compost Alliance of Australia — a volunteer-run not-for-profit connecting, supporting, and amplifying grassroots composting across the country.
LOCCAL has had a big year – having formalised partnerships, published research, grown our membership, and built connections with community composters across Australia and the world. At the AGM we will be presenting our annual report and electing committee members for the year ahead.
If you’ve ever thought about getting more involved with LOCCAL, this is your moment. We have positions available at two levels: formal office bearer roles (President, Secretary, Treasurer) and general committee working groups in areas like communications, education, and advocacy. There’s a level of involvement to suit every schedule. If you’re interested in nominating, email info@loccal.org before the night or simply put your hand up on the evening.
Both events are free to attend, or pay what you can for the webinar — every contribution goes directly toward supporting community composting across Australia
